Singer Songwriter JOHN GERARD
(A Music Sampler will start in about 1 minute)
John Gerard is the quintessential street performer, making a living strumming his guitar, singing his original songs (more like poetry) and selling thousand's of CD's to anyone who will listen. His stage is the streets and subways of Boston and Cambridge. There are few passerbys when John plays because most cannot fight the urge to stop and listen to his spot-on pitch and the harmonious melodies of his creative though somewhat eclectic, songs.
John Gerard writes from the heart about experiences, chance encounters, relationships - good and bad. He has a method of taking the simplest of thoughts and reshaping it into a fascinating story, introducing his audience to places they've been before but had never seen or experienced in the way John presents them.
John Gerard was born in Paris, France, moving to Massachusetts in the late 70's. He has been playing and songwriting since he was 14 years old, influenced by the likes of Billy Joel, The Police and then by the hard rockers of his time; Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Minor Threat, and Iron Maiden. The ubiquitous music of that generation inspired him to form a band, until he found his own voice as a solo musician.
John Gerard breathes music, his ability to change octaves on the fly, while changing chords on his guitar is almost uncanny. Listeners cannot help but feel his music, through his words, a true poet, layering his thoughts with meticulous accuracy yet it all comes naturally to him when he writes.
Here's what others have said about John:
Mary Gauthier (Go shay), a famous singer songwriter in her own right, who has traveled the country, had this to say about John, "John's songs are real. Raw. Honest. Pure. And what a singer he is, what a beautiful voice. His CD, What Lies Between is a lovely, highly listenable body of work. It sounds fantastic, it sounds like John. Accessible, pure, unpretentious."
Tom Driscoll, a local venue manager said, "This guy has a voice that will blow you outta your seats! Powerful. John doesn't know how to give casual performances."
After selling one of his songs to a Producer for HBO Films who was one of those caught up passerbys, he had this to say, "I have never stopped to listen to a street performer in my life."
