"In The Press" Kitchen Sink Productions to start entertaining Stoughton Wicked Local - Stoughton Journal There's a new player in town - or perhaps a new venture by a known player. Longtime Stoughton resident Terry Schneider, the Executive Director of the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce, has started his own production company, Kitchen Sink Productions. "My goal, for this new venture, is to provide value-added local entertainment at affordable prices by producing a variety of diverse and unique venues," Schneider said. "The reason I named my new business venture Kitchen Sink was to capitalize on the catch phrase, "Everything But the Kitchen Sink," though KSP will be known for Everything plus the Kitchen Sink." He plans to produce shows in partnership with the Old Colony YMCA in Stoughton and the Stoughton schools. "We will showcase local performers alongside professional talent, allowing for a hands-on experience on a real stage" he said. The group’s objective is to assist in raising funds for programs such as the Y's Strong Kids Campaign and the Stoughton School's Music Department. "I remember watching Mr. Holland's Opus several years ago and thinking this could never happen, there's no way that communities would allow our schools, our students, our kids, to lose important life experience programs such as music, sports and drama class" he said. "Well, guess what folks, that's exactly what has happened, and not just in Stoughton. If it weren't for the fundraising efforts of the few all of these programs would be history. In fact, as of today, there isn't a Drama Department in the Stoughton High School because it's not in the budget." For the beginning of its first season, KSP has partnered with Old Colony Y-Stoughton to provide the following: * Winter A Cappella: Sunday, Jan. 23, 1 p.m. The Starving Artists, an award winning co-ed A Cappella group from Brandeis University, will perform with Stoughton High School's own Chamber Jazz Choir, Women's Chorale and the Knightengales, SHS A Cappella group. * Night of Acoustics:Friday, Feb. 25, 5:30 p.m. It will feature street performer John Gerard, songwriter Sam Bayer and lyricist/singer Rebecca Wolff, 23, of Canton. * It's Magic: Sunday, March 6, 1 p.m. It will featuring Stoughton magician David Rysin, a high schooler who has been performing since he was 7. He has been to Vegas, and has hung out with the likes of Chris Angel, David Blaine and Lance Burton. He will arrange his own five- magician show. Ticket prices will rant from $5 to $10, with some better known talent shows to cost $12 to $15. For information, visit www.KitchenSinkProductions.biz or call 781-888-1400. |
